On Being Gay

Just because many equality laws have been passed that give same-sex relationships and individuals better rights against discrimination, it doesn’t mean the world…. your world has accepted that you are gay, lebian or bisexual. Discrimination, bullying and abuse can be covert as well as overt.

Also there may be events from the past when you felt rejected because of your sexuality. You may have grown up in a place or social environment that suppressed your sense of yourself. One of the major causes of low self esteem is the shame others can influence us with and through having to hide an important aspect of ourselves… our sexual identity.

Typically a gay man, lesbian or bisexual may have these life challenges that affect them today:-

  • Self Acceptance
  • Coming out
  • Being open with family, friends, colleagues
  • Sexual confusion

You may fear or already have experienced:-

  • Rejection by colleagues, friends and family
  • Verbal and/or Physical abuse
  • Discrimination
  • Bullying
  • Prejudice
  • Isolation

No matter what your sexuality is, anyone can experience difficulties. Your sexuality may make these more likely to have been exprienced or currently still a challenge in your life:-

  • Low self-worth
  • Suicidal thoughts
  • Depression and Sadness
  • Loneliness
  • Hurt and Anger
  • Stress and Anxiety
  • Addiction to substances, pornography or other forms of escape

Gay therapy can help you feel more in control and accepted. You can talk freely about what has happened and your fears and anxieties without being judged. Hypnosis can help you release your stress and feel calmer and more relaxed. Then in feeling more confident about yourself can lead to a fulfilling life of pride and achievement.

I’m in very terrifying situation of rejection, discrimination, abuse, bullying, death threats back in my country etc.. after coming out to my mom & family members, But after reading all this, I feel at home and hope there is still future in my life as Gay. It’s part of me, my happiness and can’t help it!
